How to use LinkedIn to get your next job

The end of summer can be a slow time to search for a job. But if you’re on the job hunt, I’d encourage you to spend these last weeks of August preparing for the post-Labor Day hiring rush. (Unless you’re on vacation, of course, in which case – save this for later!)

One thing I often hear from candidates is that they don’t take LinkedIn too seriously, or don’t understand the value of it. They think of it as a social media platform that is, ”just there, but I barely look at it.”

My advice this week is to boost up your LinkedIn presence. I can tell you that recruiters and potential employers are using it all the time! A few tips:

  • Make sure your LinkedIn reads just like a resume. The more thorough the better.

  • Spend some time perusing your networks and connecting with folks you know but aren’t currently connected to on the platform.

  • Reach out to connections you haven’t spoken to in a while. Say hello, let them know you’re thinking of them, and see if they’d be willing to catch up via phone or Zoom.

  • Make sure you weave in key words that best describe your experiences and motivations. Recruiters and employers are using key words all the time to find potential candidates. Make it easy for them to find you!

NRG can help with all of this! Feel free to reach out about our coaching programs.

Here are the top three jobs we’re featuring this week:

  1. Campaign Director at Kairos; $80,000-$90,000; Remote.

  2. Chief Digital Officer at Freedom Forum; $225,000+; Remote.

  3. National Director of Constituent Management Systems at Common Cause; $110,000-$120,000; Washington, D.C.

Now, onto housekeeping!
