70+ jobs from mission-driven orgs

I love Groundhog Day because it’s also a special family day. It’s the date my wife and I celebrated our marriage with friends and family. Our actual wedding anniversary is in early January but we chose to host a big party with family and friends about a month later. Every year, we look forward to remembering that celebration.

Last year I offered tips to keep you grounded in your search. This year as you agonize (or rejoice) over Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction, you can browse a bunch of jobs from mission-driven organizations to keep yourself occupied in advance of the big reveal. Once a quarter we open up our newsletter to like-minded organizations because we want to help our Get Hired audience find their next role. We are not running the recruitment process for those positions but take a look and I hope you find one or two (or more) that interest you.

But first I want to briefly review the results from our previous survey on your experiences with recruiters. We had over 100 people respond.

Most of the respondents (about 70%) have never worked with NRG. Maybe that’s you and maybe you are new to this email. Welcome! We heard from a few people who said that they preferred working with recruiters because recruiters can be responsive and provide basic details needed to decide if they should apply.

Building on the topic of responsiveness, a few key themes were clear and echo what we heard in our last survey:

Transparency.

People want to know the timeline, they want to know the salary and more about the organization. The good news is that the number of organizations sharing salaries more than doubled from 2022 to 2023; we are now at 45%. This is good news. Hopefully, more organizations will disclose salary and general information you need to know before you apply.

Communication.

I have heard it a thousand times, candidates tell me the horror stories about getting ghosted during the process. At NRG we try to always reply to every inquiry in a timely manner. However, we are also always working to improve our processes behind the scenes so that we always follow through.

In addition to transparency about the process, many of our respondents acknowledge that the hiring process timeline changes sometimes. People want to know about those changes and appreciate any and all updates.

How recruiters communicate is also important. People love feedback about why they didn’t move on in the process and they also love to know how many applicants there were and if they were in the top 10.

Feeling misunderstood.

There is also a thread running through many of these survey responses that highlight how many people on the job hunt feel like recruiters don’t get them. People talked about someone telling them they are underqualified and then others saying they are overqualified.

The job search takes time and can leave candidates exhausted and respondents said that this seems lost on many recruiters. Many reflected that building trust–through transparency and communication–helps them to feel like a human being even when they don’t get the job.

If you feel like recruiters misunderstand your resume or your answers during a phone screen aren’t landing with the interviewer, schedule a complimentary 15-minute call with Kristin Saybe to see if NRG Coaching is right for you.

Thanks to all who completed the survey. I read your responses and we are doing our best at NRG to make the hiring process experience better for you.  If you have any ideas about the hiring process you want to share with me directly, email me here.
