Tips: Job hunting in the dog days of summer
August tends to be one of the slowest times for hiring. But that doesn’t mean you should hit pause on your job search.
Plenty of organizations are still actively recruiting, typically with a goal of a post-Labor Day start date (or even sooner!). So keep searching and submitting applications, even if things feel a bit slower.
Now is also a great time to refresh your network. Take a look through your contact list and social media and make a list of past or previous colleagues who you haven’t spoken to in awhile. Then, make a plan to reconnect. This can just be a simple note. Let the person know you’re thinking of them and would love to hear what they’ve been up to. This can go a long way toward broadening your active network.
Remember: Candidates often get job referrals through people they know, so make sure you’re fresh on people’s minds!
