How to land your dream job by Labor Day
Since the leaked Supreme Court opinion, it feels like there’s been one awful thing happening after another. Reading about the ongoing racially-motivated hate crimes has been devastating, as I’m sure it’s been for all of you.
At this moment, I feel lucky that I get to help build the progressive movement. Supporting the amazing clients I have brings me joy. I'm really excited about helping an anti-Asian hate organization build out their comms, policy, and organizing team.
People are also thinking about the midterm elections, and there’s an influx of money going to mission-driven organizations in response to the state of the world. And what does more money mean? More jobs.
Here are tips for how to land your dream job by Labor Day:
Get started now! As I always say, finding a new job takes longer than you think. So to land that dream job by Labor Day, now’s the time. The summer months tend to be tough for job hunting, so don’t put this off until “things slow down a bit.”
Prioritize cultivating your network over just applying to jobs. Talk to current and former colleagues, reach out to peers in your field, and talk to friends who are outside of your field but leaders in theirs.
Networking doesn’t have to be a formal process. Set a reasonable but ambitious goal for the number of conversations you want to have each week, and reach out to folks in your network. Ask for 15 minutes or so of their time on the phone or over Zoom to pick their brain and share thoughts and ideas together.
Set a goal and hold yourself to it. Give yourself a goal of how many networking conversations you want to have between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Typically I think 5-ish a week is the right number so that's 75-ish by Labor Day.
Here are the top three jobs we’re featuring this week:
Campaign Director at Louisiana Bucket Brigade; $75,000; New Orleans.
