Yes, the job search can be scary
My family loves Halloween. We pull out all of our decorations–black and purple lights, scary ghosts dangling from the trees, an orange and black wreath–and we also get to celebrate my wife’s birthday!
This year, I want to remind you that the job search can be spooky, and sometimes it can be downright scary. If you feel alone in this process, let this serve as a reminder that we all go through it.
With that in mind, here are some ways the job search can be a little frightening:
Organizations don’t respond to your application. At NRG, we do our best to reply to every applicant. That’s not the case for every search. In the meantime, continue to reach out and make connections and keep your network from going stale.
The job search is a process. It requires months of networking and reaching out to eventually find the position that has the impact you desire. Not hearing back from people you try to connect with can feel discouraging. I have found that most people want to help and will assist if time and resources allow. Focus on the connections that you do have and continue to deepen those relationships.
The job search takes a long time. This is scary and can sometimes feel like you are navigating a spooky haunted house. Be prepared. It can take 12 weeks from the time that you submit your application to getting a job offer. I mentioned this in the last newsletter, but find a buddy to keep you sane and accountable during the scary aspects of your job search.
To help with the scary parts of this process, I am hosting two free webinars! I hope you can attend:
